Safety

A robot in a home has to be safe before it is useful. These are the layers we are designing in — and the limits we are honest about.

Safety layers

  • Stop button on the robot

A physical button anyone in the home can press. It cuts motion immediately.

  • Stop button in the app

Sent over the fastest connection available, and over the cloud at the same time.

  • Stops when it loses contact

If the robot stops hearing from its own safety check, it halts on its own.

  • Arms that hold still

The arms are designed to hold their position if power is lost, instead of dropping.

  • Safe charging

The dock's contacts are off until the robot is confirmed in place.

  • Gentle on contact

Speed and force limits around people, with extra care near children and pets.

What Anew can’t do yet

  • Climb stairs — it works on one floor.
  • Handle knives, open flames or hot oil.
  • Lift heavy things (more than a few kilograms) or move furniture.
  • Look after children, pets or anyone who needs care. It is not a babysitter or a nurse.
  • Work outdoors or in the rain.
  • Do any chore reliably yet — every chore on this site is still in development.

When something goes wrong

  1. 1

    It stops

If something isn't right — an object slips, something is in the way, a step fails — it stops moving first.

  2. 2

    It tells you

A light and a short message on the robot and in the app say what happened.

  3. 3

    It asks for help

It can try again, wait for you, or ask our team for help. Nobody connects without your yes.

  4. 4

    It keeps a record

Every stop is logged, so you and we can see what happened and fix it.

Remote help, explained

Sometimes a robot gets stuck in a way it can’t solve alone. When that happens, Anew can ask a person on our team to help. Our rules for this:

  • It asks you first, every time. You can say no.
  • The app shows that someone is connected, who, and for how long.
  • They see only what they need for that task; privacy mode stays respected.
  • You can switch remote help off entirely.

Anew is in development and not yet certified. We will list every certification (including FCC) here as it is earned.
